That Ice Hockey, It's Cold!

They play on ice, see. Slippery stuff. And cold! Brrr! I wouldn't last a minute out there. These kids, though, they love it.

They wear all sorts of things. Helmets, pads. Gotta protect themselves, I guess. Falling on that ice, it ain't like falling on grass. It is more like getting hurt, which is no good. I saw a boy fall once. He had to get help. I think he got a knee injury. Hope he is ok now.

Ice Hockey, they call it. Seems popular. Lots of folks go to watch. Cheering and yelling. Like a big party, but cold. That is what I think of.

December 18, 2024, I hear that is a day they might be playing. It is Wednesday. But it is long time away. I don't know if I remember that long. But you can look it up.

Massachusetts High School Hockey

That's what they call it, this Massachusetts High School Hockey. It's a big thing, I guess. Lots of schools. Lots of teams. Boys and girls. All sliding around on that ice.

They even got different levels. Like, some are better than others. They call it Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3. Like a cake, I guess. Tier 1 is the top of the cake. Best of the best. Then you got the ones that are okay. That is Tier 2, I think. Then the last ones that aren't so good. I think it is called Tier 3. They got another one called Recreational or something. I don't really know what that is. Maybe just for fun.

They got rules, too. Lots of rules. Can't just do whatever you want out there. Gotta follow the rules. I guess you don't want a big mess out there.

They use sticks to hit that little black thing. Gotta get it in the net. That's how you win, I think. Get more in the net than the other team. It is kind of like basketball but on ice. And with sticks.

Billerica Memorial High School Hockey, a Big Deal

So, this Billerica Memorial High School, they take their hockey serious. It's a big deal for them. Lots of folks go to the games. Support the team.

It's good for the kids, I guess. Keeps them busy. Out of trouble. Teaches them things. Like teamwork. And how to lose, I suppose. Can't always win, you know.

My grandson, he's happy playing. That's what matters, I reckon. As long as he's happy. And not getting hurt too bad. Falling on that ice, you know.

They have a list of all the players. That is called a roster. You can find that, too. All the boys on the Billerica Memorial boys varsity ice hockey team. There are lots of boys on the team. It takes a lot to play hockey.

Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That's just how it goes. Ain't no use cryin' over spilled milk, as they say. They played some team called South Burlington. Lost that one in overtime. That's a heartbreaker, that is.

They had a coach, too. Every team's got a coach. This one's named, uh, Wiertzema. Sounds like a mouthful, don't it? He says the goalies are important. And he's got two of 'em. Gilbertson and Beam. Good strong names, them are. Need them strong names in hockey, I reckon. There was also some photos of these boys taken by a woman called Carol, I hear.
