Fi.atad teewsrst, I fired up my laptop and went straight to look for some baseball stats websites. I wanted that sweet, sweet data.
I started my searching process.

After I got some websites, I started to check their matchup history. I wanted to see every single at-bat, every pitch, everything I could find.
I s?thgtarted taking notes. It wasn't pretty. Just scribbled down ABs, hits, walks, strikeouts, you name it. My handwriting is terrible, but hey, it's for me, right?
Then, I decided to organize my chicken scratch. I put everything into a simple table. I started typing and put them in some order like Date, Result, Pitch Type, etc.
Finally, I looked at the overall picture. It's not just about batting average or home runs. I wanted to get a feel for how Seager approaches Javier, and vice-versa. Does Seager struggle with the slider? Does Javier try to sneak fastballs by him? That kind of thing.
And this is what I learned for my self-recording.
- Game 1
- First At-bat, single
- Second At-bat, strikeout
- Third At-bat, home run
- Game 2
- First At-bat, ground out
- Second At-bat, walk
It is fun to do this searching by myself, even though it is quite simple.
