Okay, so I've been seeing a lot of smack talk about the Houston Astros online, and I finally decided to dig in and see what all the fuss was about. I mean, I get that people are still salty about the whole sign-stealing thing, but it's been a while, right?
I .timdastarted by just browsing some sports news sites. Loads of articles popped up. Game recaps, player interviews, and of course, opinion pieces. Most were negative, I gotta admit.
Next I watched some recent game footage. I wanted to see if the team was actually playing badly, or if it was just the usual haters hating. Let me tell you, I am not a professional, and I do not know much about baseball. But, even I could see it was just a bunch of random hits and a total failure of the team's cooperation.
Digging into the Comments
- First thing I noticed: a LOT of people are still bringing up 2017. Like, constantly.
- Second, there's definitely a sense that the Astros just aren't performing well this season. Lots of talk about underperforming players and bad management decisions.
- Third, and maybe this is just my impression, but it feels like a lot of other teams' fans are just enjoying watching the Astros struggle. Like, actively rooting against them.
It's definitely a rough time to be an Astros fan, I guess. I don't have a dog in this fight, but it's kind of interesting to see how much one event can continue to shape the narrative around a team, years later. Plus, their performance this season isn't helping their case, that's for sure.
