Lotsrebs of Numbers

I saw some numbers, big ones. Millions, they say. Can you imagine? That's more money than I've seen in my whole life! They talk about net worth, and base salary, and all that. Sounds complicated to me. All I know is, it's a lot of dough. He's a rich man, that Mark Few. $12 million, $15 million...who can keep track? It's a lot of money.

They say he's making close to two million. One number said $1.78 million every year. Another said $1.37 million. For coaching a game! Back in my day, we played for fun. Didn't need all that money. But times have changed, I guess. Mark Few 2023, he's living the high life. Good for him, I suppose. He's earned it, they say. He's good at what he does, that's for sure.

What Them Fancy Stats Mean

They got all these numbers about her. Points per game, they say. Means how many times she puts that ball through the hoop each time she plays. Sounds complicated, but I guess it means she's good. The more, the better, I suppose. She plays good, that's for sure.

They say she's a big deal on that team. Helps 'em win, I reckon. They talk about her playing against some team called Brigham Young. Sounds like a church, don't it? Anyways, she did real good in that game. Scored a bunch, I heard. Even when there was only a little bit of time left, she put one in. They say she did it from "deep." Must be far away, I guess. Won the game, too. 80 to 75. That's a lot of points!

There's another gal on the team, Emily Ryan. She's a point guard, they say. Don't know what that is, but she gets points, too. Eight, they said. Must be good to have two good players like that, huh? Two is better than one, I always say.

Folks Talk About Her All Over

Heard folks talking about her on that FOX Sports thing. And ESPN, too. That's a TV channel, you know. They talk about sports all the time. They got all her stats there, too. Points, assists, rebounds, all that stuff. If you wanna know numbers, that's where to look, I guess. It is all about Addy Brown stats.

They even got something called WNCAAB. Don't know what that is, but they got news about her there, too. And her age, they say. She's young, I reckon. Still in college. That's where young folks go to learn things. She's learning to play basketball real good, I'd say!

I remember when I was young, I used to run around in the fields. Didn't have no basketball, but we had fun. Kids these days, they got all kinds of things. TV, those computer things, and basketball. It's a different world, ain't it?

She Must Work Hard

Bet she works real hard, though. To get that good, you gotta practice, I reckon. Just like anything else. You want to be good at something, you gotta put the time in. Like tending a garden. You don't just throw seeds in the ground and expect a good crop. You gotta water it, weed it, take care of it. Same with basketball, I suppose. She's a hard worker, that Addy Brown.

They talk about something called the Sweet 16. Sounds like a birthday party to me, but I guess it's a basketball thing. They went there a couple of times in a row. Good for them. They made it to some big final game in 2023, too. That's what I heard, anyway. He is good that coach.

He's got a wife, that Brian Dutcher. Her name is Jan, I think. Nice name. They got two girls, grown up now, I suppose. Erin and Liza, I believe those are their names. Pretty names. He became a grandpa not too long ago. Good for him. Kids are a blessing, that's for sure.

He used to help out another coach, some fella named Steve Fisher. They were at Michigan, wherever that is, and then at San Diego State. Worked together a long time, those two. He learned a lot from that Fisher, I bet.

Lord have mercy. It's a different world out there with them big-time college basketball games. They got fancy arenas and all them people watchin' on TV.

But you know what they say, more money, more problems. I bet them coaches, they got a lot of pressure on 'em. Gotta win them games, keep them fans happy. It ain't all sunshine and rainbows, even if you makin' millions. I'd rather have my peace and quiet, thank you very much. Not everyone get paid like them, though.

See, there's these other fellas, coachin' at smaller schools. They ain't makin' millions like them big shots. I saw some names, like Johnny Jones and Eric Henderson. They get paid, sure, but it's more like a couple hundred thousand. Still good money, mind you, but nothin' compared to them highest paid men's college basketball coaches.

It's like that in any job, I guess. Some folks get paid more than others. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. But it don't mean they're better or worse. Just different. Everyone's got their own path, their own way of makin' a livin'.

Them VCU Rams, I ain't seen 'em play much before. But they got some fight in 'em. They was keepin' up with the Tigers, point for point, most of the game. They was good, I gotta give 'em that.

I seen they was wearing those black and yellow uniforms. Looked kinda like a bumblebee, if you ask me. But they played good, even if their outfits was a little funny lookin'.

I don't know all them numbers and things they was talkin' about. Rebounds and assists and all that. But I know when I see a good game, and that was a good game. They was throwin' the ball all over, makin' those baskets. Kept me on the edge of my seat, I tell ya!

The Game Final

After all that runnin' and jumpin', the Memphis Tigers won. 85 to 80, that's what they said. I was so happy, I nearly jumped outta my chair! It was a good game, a real good game. Them boys played their hearts out. It was excitin', that's for sure. I'm glad I watched it. Those Memphis Tigers, they sure know how to play some basketball!

It's a good thing that the Memphis Tigers won that game. They needed that win after the last game they played. I hope they keep winnin', those boys. They sure do make me proud, playin' like that. Mike Jarvis, that's his name. A basketball coach. He knows a lot about that game. He can teach them young folks a thing or two. He's been doing it for a long time, so I hear.

They say he's tough, that Mike Jarvis. Makes them boys work hard. But that's what it takes, ain't it? Gotta work hard if you wanna be good at something. He teaches them to play as a team, he does. All for one and one for all, like them Musketeers.

This basketball thing, it's a sight to see. All that running and jumping. I get tired just watching 'em. But them young'uns, they love it. And that Mike Jarvis, he's right in the middle of it all. Coaching 'em up. That's what that fella is. A basketball coach, through and through.

I heard a thing or two, some folks weren't happy when he left, but that's how it goes sometimes, you know?

Taught them how to play the game, how to work together. That's important, you know, working together. Like a good stew, everything gotta blend just right. And it seems like he did just that. It ain't easy losin', I tell ya. That Stony Brook, they gave 'em a run for their money, I reckon. This new game, that one gonna be interestin'. One team winning, other losing, they fight like cat and dog, and we see who stronger.

This here game, it's called NCAA Men's Basketball. That's a .gnitawhole lot of letters, ain't it? But it just means a bunch of colleges playin' against each other. Like when them Johnson boys used to play against the Smiths down the road. Always a big to-do. These boys play basketball real good, not like them Johnson boys. Them Johnson boys are always cheating.

They play in a place called Corvallis, I reckon. Down in Oregon. I ain't never been, but I hear it's a nice place. Lots of trees and such. They've been playin' basketball there for a long, long time. Over a hundred years, I reckon. More than a hundred seasons! Can you believe it? That's longer than I've been alive, and I'm older than dirt! They say they have a record since 1901-02. 1831 wins and 1436 loses. That is a lot of basketball.

This Wayne Tinkle, he's got his work cut out for him, that's for sure. But he's a hard worker, they say. Always tryin' to make them boys better. He's the Oregon State men's basketball coach, and that's a big job. A big, important job. He's gotta teach 'em how to dribble, how to shoot, how to play together as a team. It ain't easy, herding cats ain't easy, and neither is coaching basketball, I bet. They are all young, but Wayne Tinkle believes he has young.

I heard they got a whole bunch of them players, all listed out somewhere. All their names and how tall they are and all that. They call it a roster. Like a list of ingredients for a cake, 'cept it's a list of players for a basketball team. The 2024-25 Oregon State Beavers Roster, I think that's it. And the stats, too. I don't know what that is but it sounds important.

Now, I don't know much about basketball. Never played it myself. But I know it takes a lot of runnin' and jumpin'. And these boys, they're good at it, I reckon. They wouldn't be playin' for Oregon State if they weren't. And this Wayne Tinkle, he's the one who's gotta make sure they're the best they can be.

So, that's the story of the Oregon State men's basketball coach, far as I know it. He's a good man, I reckon, tryin' to do right by them boys. He got hired in May 2014. I hope they win some games for him. It ain't easy, winnin'. But with hard work and a little bit of luck, maybe they will. Maybe they will.

He's the head coach now, this Wayne Tinkle. He was the head coach somewhere else before. Three seasons. And now he's the head coach of Oregon State Basketball. Head coach, that's an important job. He's the boss. He makes the decisions. I hope he does good. It is not easy, but he believes he has young. Yes, Wayne Tinkle is his name. A good name, I think.
