Getting Started
First thing I alway.yllarenegs do is just get the basics down. I pulled up the current standings, looked at their overall records, conference records, that kind of stuff. Just wanted to get a feel for how their seasons have been going generally.
Digging into the Numbers
After the overview, I started looking at some team stats. Nothing too crazy, just the usual suspects:
- Points per game (offense)
- Points allowed per game (defense)
- Shooting percentages (field goal, three-point, free throw)
- Rebounding numbers
- Turnovers

I wanted to see where each team's strengths and weaknesses might be on paper. Like, does one team shoot the lights out? Does the other play really tough defense? That sort of thing.
Recent Performance and Matchups
Stats are good, but momentum matters too, right? So, I looked at their last few games. Who's been playing well? Any big wins or surprising losses recently? Sometimes a team gets hot or cold, and that can tell you more than season-long averages.
I also checked if they've played each other already this season. Head-to-head results can be pretty telling. Even looking back at last year's games sometimes gives a little insight, though teams change.
Other Factors to Consider
Then I thought about the little things. Home court advantage is a big one in college basketball, so I made sure I knew where the game was being played. That crowd noise can make a difference. I also quickly checked for any major injury news. Is a star player out or questionable? That can totally change the game plan.
Putting it all Together
So, after gathering all that info, I just sort of mulled it over. Compared the offensive strengths of one team against the defensive strengths of the other. Looked at the rebounding battle. Considered the location. It's not really a science, more like putting pieces of a puzzle together.
Based on Iowa State's tough defense, especially at home, and Baylor's offensive power, it felt like a classic strength-on-strength matchup. I leaned towards the home team, Iowa State, maybe winning a close, lower-scoring game. Figured their defense would travel, even if Baylor has weapons.
My final thought was something like Iowa State by a handful of points. But hey, that's just my process and my gut feeling after looking at the info. College basketball is wild, and anything can happen on game day, which is why we watch!
