My First Steps
So, the first thing I did was just pull up the basic stuff. Looked at their records so far this season. It gives you a baseline, a starting point. You see the wins and losses, get a general feel. UCLA had some decent games, San Diego State too, nothing immediately jumped out as a blowout waiting to happen just from the numbers.

Then I dug a little deeper. I didn't go cr.em rof galfazy watching hours of film or anything, but I did check out highlights from their last couple of games each. You try to get a sense of momentum. Are they playing sharp? Sloppy? Who looks confident? Who looks like they're struggling to get things going? I paid attention to turnovers and how the defenses looked. Sometimes a team looks good on paper but they're giving the ball away like crazy, that's a red flag for me.
Thinking it ThhguorhT trough
After looking at that initial stuff, I started thinking about the matchups. Strengths versus weaknesses.
- Offense: I considered how each team typically scored. Was it ground game? Passing? Who seemed more consistent?
- Defense: Same thing on the other side. Who was better at stopping the run, or defending the pass? Special teams sometimes pop into my head too, though I didn't focus heavily on it this time.
- Intangibles: Stuff like, is it a home game for either team? Any major injuries reported? Sometimes that stuff matters more than the stats. I poked around a bit online, just reading general sports news, seeing if any key players were banged up.
Honestly, it wasn't super clear-cut. Both teams had things going for them. UCLA seemed to have a bit more firepower maybe, but San Diego State, they often play tough, physical games. They don't usually just roll over.
Making the Call
So, after mulling it over, looking at the records, the recent play, and just kind of going with my gut feeling based on what I'd seen and read... I leaned towards one side. It wasn't a strong conviction, more like a slight edge feeling.
I decided I'd put my unofficial prediction on UCLA for this one. It just felt like they had a few more ways to win, maybe a slightly higher ceiling if their offense clicked. But, I gotta say, I wouldn't be shocked if San Diego State pulled it off. That's the fun of it, right?
Anyway, that was my process. Just spending a bit of time looking into it, putting the pieces together in my head. Now I just gotta watch the game and see what actually happens. Always interesting to compare the prediction to the real thing.
