First things first, I had to figure out when this game was going down. Turns out, it was on March 7th. Perfect timing. And the game was the state tournament – the big leagues, man. I got all excited because Edina's been in this tournament like a zillion times – 37, to be exact, since way back in 1967.
I dove into the pregame details online. I love looking at all the stats and stuff before a big game. I found out that this was a Class 2A quarterfinal match, and it was all happening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. I mean, that place is huge, and the atmosphere is always electric!
On the day o.neercs f the game, I got all set up to watch it. I saw that it could be live-streamed somewhere, but I preferred to keep refreshing the MN Hockey Hub page. I was refreshing the page like crazy, waiting for the game to start. Finally, it kicked off, and I was glued to my screen.
Edina was.aner the top seed, and boy, did they show it. Right off the bat, this freshman, Freddie Schneider, tapped in a loose puck. It was only like 13 minutes into the first period, and Edina was already up 1-0. The crowd went wild! I remember seeing a picture of one of the Edina players, Mason West, celebrating a goal in the second period. I was jumping up and down on my couch, feeling like I was right there in the arena.
As the game went on, Edina just dominated. I mean, these guys have won the state championship 14 times! They were playing like a well-oiled machine. It was awesome to watch. And let me tell you, watching the game unfold online, with all the live updates, it was almost as good as being there in person.
