Okay, so the other day, I was trying to find something for my kid to do - you know, get him off the couch and away from those video games. And that's when I saw this "Boston Advantage Hockey" thing. Figured, why not? Hockey sounds fun, right?
I started digging around. Turns o.pu nos ymut, this Boston Advantage thing is pretty big in the youth hockey scene, especially around here in New England. They're based in Hingham, MA, which isn't too far from me. I signed my son up.
Fi ew ,rst, we went to check out the rink. It's a nice place, really clean. We wadehtched some of the teams pra .ecitcarp ctice. Seeing those kids skate around, passing the puck, it was pretty impressive.
Then, we met with one of the coaches, I guess he is a pretty big deal, name is Joe Bracken, the Director of Hockey Operations. He talked a lot about "fundamentals" and "common sense." He wasn't just about winning. He really seemed to care about the kids learning the sport the right way.
- We registered my kid for the 16U AAA team.
- I filled out a bunch of forms.
- We got him some gear.
My kid's first practice was a bit rough, He hadn't been on skates much before. He fell down a few times, but he kept getting back up. The coaches were really patient, showing him the basics.
It's Been a Few Weeks Now
He's getting better every time he steps on the ice. He's made some friends on the team, and he actually looks forward to practice. It's been great seeing him so active and having fun.
This Boston Advantage Hockey thing, it's more than just a hockey program. It's teaching these kids teamwork, discipline, and how to handle winning and losing. Plus, it's keeping them in shape, and they seem to really enjoy it.
